Barbara Jeanne Bard, age 94, passed away September 18, 2022 in Jacksonville, FL. Jeanne was born on a cold winter day, December 12, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN to Delpha Myrtle Victoria Peterson and Clair Vernon Hughes. She and her younger sister, Mary Ann, spent many childhood days at the family cabin on Green Lake in Spicer, MN where they loved to fish. Their parents taught them to love and worship God at a young age. Jeanne's father was a dentist in Minneapolis, and she followed his footsteps attending the University of Minnesota achieving a Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene.
One day, Jeanne met a young, handsome dental student named Edwin Jay Bard, who had returned from his service in WWII before attending college. It was love at first sight and they married March 17, 1950. They had their first child, Ann Bard Oswald, in Minnesota and relocated to Jacksonville, FL to begin Ed's dental career and complete a family of 8 children.
Jeanne and Ed were very active members of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville. She shared with her children the same respect and love for our Heavenly Father that she had. Jeanne was stunning, had a great sense of fashion (and humor), loved pottery, sewing, cooking, travel, and shopping - especially at Neiman Marcus. Her family celebrates her life as a loving, caring mother.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her parents; sister, Mary Ann; daughter Barbara Claire Bard Reed; sons Brian (Skip) Jay Bard and James Jay Bard; and two grandchildren Noah Jay and Lucas "Luke" James Bard. She is survived by her five remaining children Ann Bard Oswald, Nancy Bard Michelsen, Irene Bard Stone, David Jay Bard, and April Jeanne Bard; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Downtown, Lindsay Memorial Auditorium.
