Darcile Sweat McClellan

Darcile Sweat McClellan, 103, was born in Ware County, GA on September 10, 1920 and died in Jacksonville, FL on December 5, 2023. She is survived by her sister Lynelle Mason, son Gary (wife Lori), daughter- in-law Michelle McClellan (widow of her son Curtis), grandson Neil (wife Chloe) and great granddaughters Austin and Libby. She is also survived by Michelle’s mother Priscilla Stover, who participated mightily in helping care for her for 30 years.

Darcile was a member of Ortega Baptist Church for more than 50 years where she served in Sunday School and in the kitchen, helping host weekly dinners and special events. She enjoyed crafts, her Red Hat Club, and could always be found writing and reciting bible verses for personal strength. In her younger years she worked as a cashier at the Navy Exchange at Naval Air Station Jacksonville and later in school cafeterias at a few of Ortega’s elementary schools. She took pride in serving others, even offering to do laundry for her fellow assisted living residents while in her 90’s. She loved her family, chocolate and soft serve ice cream.

There will be a visitation for Darcile on Monday, 9:30 AM at Refuge Church, 4865 Roosevelt Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32210, with a funeral after, at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest after the funeral, at Kettle Creek Cemetery. 2541-2563 Bennett Lane, Waycross, GA 31503.
