Elva Ree Morrow Myra, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2023, peacefully in her room at Palagio Senior Living in Orange Park, Florida. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Julian Duane Myra; son, Harold Duane Myra; daughter, Julia Myra Armstrong; granddaughter, Amberly Shae Bell; and great-grandson, Corbin Lee Duane Bell. She is predeceased by her parents Horace Newell Morrow and Mary Stella Smith and sisters, Ailene Hubbard, and Mary Lou Mason.
Elva was born on September 1, 1937, in Shelby, NC. After graduating from Shelby High School in 1955, she continued her education at Tennessee Temple and later at the University of Florida where she obtained her master’s degree in education.
She met her true love, Julian, while teaching at Jacksonville Christian School in 1959, whom she married in November 1960. She taught at San Mateo Elementary, Highlands Elementary, and ended at Highlands Jr. High where she retired in 1992, after 33 years of teaching.
Elva will be remembered for living a life for Christ. She began every day with a daily devotional and prayer and always put Christ first in her life. This philosophy allowed her to be a devoted spouse, a loving mother, a nurturing grandmother, and caring great-grandmother. Throughout the years she filled her days with baking, playing Scrabble, sewing, embroidering, crocheting, and tutoring.
Elva is a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church's missions account at https://cbcjax.com.
A special thanks to Community Hospice and the staff at Palagio Senior Living for the care they provided for Elva during her final days.
