Evan Octavious Rhule, age 71 years, resident of Jacksonville, Florida and formerly of Kingston and St. Mary in Jamaica, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2018 in hospice with daughter Liz and friend Maizie by his side.
Evan attended Elliott Primary School and graduated from Kingston Technical High School in Jamaica 1965 where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He continued his studies at The College of Arts, Science and Technology where he attained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Evan worked at Alcoa Bauxite and Mineral Works in Clarendon, Jamaica from November 1971 to mid-1985 where he held several supervisory positions. Evan had an excellent work ethic and was highly respected by the staff and management. He migrated to the US in August 1985 and shortly after started working in Albany, Georgia. Within a year he moved to Jacksonville, Florida and worked briefly at Atlantic Dry Dock before joining Basso Chemicals, now Bastech LLC in January 1987 where he worked until April 2014 when he became very ill. He was diagnosed in May 2014 with Multiple Myeloma and not able to return to work.
Evan is survived by his 2nd mother, Beatrice Rhule of Jamaica; children, Elizabeth of USA, Andrea, Evan Jr, Dionne of Jamaica, Clint (Natalie) of USA and Rayon of Canada; grand-children, Shem, Morgann, Kioni, Alicia, Olivia and Kennedi; dear friends, Monica Reid, Maiziline Jarvis, Patricia Donaldson, and Margo Parnell; sisters, Jacqueline Graham, Pamela Rhule, Josephine Barton and Carol Anderson; brothers, Frederick & Melford Rhule and Richard Anderson; co-workers, other relatives and friends. Evan is predeceased by his father, Norman Rhule; mother, Zipporah (Susan) Reid; brothers, Lewin & Emmanuel Rhule and Tony Burton.
Special thanks to The Mayo Clinic, Drs. Jeffrey DiMascio (retired), Safeer Ashraf and the staff at Cancer Specialists of North Florida; the doctors and nurses at Baptist Medical Center South Hospital and the staff at Community Hospice and Palliative Care for the dedicated care and attention given to Evan during his 4+ years since his diagnosis. Thanks to all who have fervently prayed for him over the years especially the members of Gwinnett Bible Chapel in Lilburn, GA where daughter Elizabeth is in fellowship. Very special thanks to Maiziline Jarvis (Maizie Rowe), who in Evan’s words was “a great, great help!”
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 3, 2018, with Visitation one hour prior in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard with Mr. Rojers Paul as Officiant. The Burial will take place at a later date in Saint Mary, Jamaica.
