Went Home To be With the Lord Sunday, August 18th, 2019
Jacksonville FL
Evelyn was born to James Calvin Messer and Florence Whitfield Messer on July 28, 1929 in Altha, FL. She was raised in a large family with seven sisters and brothers. After graduating high school in 1946, she moved to Jacksonville where she was employed with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company as a telephone operator and an outside plant clerk for 38 years. She retired in 1983.
In 1949 Evelyn met and married Henry Warren Herren, a WWII 8th Infantry combat veteran. They had two sons, Henry Randall Herren of Jacksonville and Jerry Warren Herren of Tampa. They were married 29 years until Henry’s death in July 1978. She married again in 1983 to long-time friend and Southern Bell retiree Guy Pinholster, who passed in December 2009. Evelyn had a great love for her family, her sons Randy & Jerry, daughters in law, Cathy and Diane, and two grandsons, Michael and Kyle Herren. Evelyn is survived by one brother, Greg Messer and one sister, Nina Messer Swinford, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly.
By her own testimony, Evelyn would share with family and friends that she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Ramona Baptist Church on March 17, 1957. She lived a faithful life for our Lord, and told us that “the longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows” (one of her favorite hymnals). Evelyn was an active member of the Lake Shore Baptist Church in Jacksonville and loved being part of the Inez Ladies Sunday School Class for over 30 years. It is evident by the committed, consistent life in Christ that Evelyn lived, that she is now home with the Lord.
Service; Officiated by Pastor Dr. Harold G. Hudson, Fellowship Baptist Church, Raiford FL
