Sashlo Himelfarb(father) and Esther Himelfarb(mother). She was raised in a
observant Jewish family. Chana had six brothers and one sister. Chana was the
only member of her family to survive the Holocaust. During the Holocaust Chana
was incarcerated into Lodz Ghetto by the Nazis and forced to work in a labor
camp at age fifteen. She met and married Ben Gavronsky on October 10, 1943 in
Lodz, Poland. Chana and Ben survived the Holocaust together and then
immigrated to NYC. Chana wanted warmth and sunshine so left NYC for
Jacksonville Florida while they had two sons, Jake and Michael. She and Ben later
had two daughters, Miriam and Helen and another son, Aaron. Ben started out in
construction in Jacksonville and later he and Chana became entrepreneurs buying
and managing their own Apartment buildings. Chana would clean and make
ready the apartments. They soon started a small furniture store which has grown
and is known to Jacksonville as Furniture Mart, owned and operated by Aaron and
his family, and the family of Michail Gavronsky. Chana's beautiful spirit is survived
by her children, 13 grand- children, and 13 great grand-children.
