I knew Jake since 1962 and am very sorry to hear of his passing. I remember him every Halloween, for reasons I won't say here --the same with the Midnighters.

Jake and I were foxhole buddies in Vietnam, and I couldn't have asked for a better one. To say he was brave, courageous, and kind would be a vast understatement. He was one of the nicest persons I ever knew,. We reconnected a few years ago, and spent many times on the phone. I was fortunate enough to have visited with him a few years ago when he came up to Philadelphia to visit friends and family. We spent a wonderful day reminiscing and catching up. RIP, Jake. Gary Owen. My deepest condolences to Dee and his family.

For the past 45 years Jake has been like a brother to me. From helping me at WCPD, making me laugh when things got tough, sailing on the 'Judge Knot', writing letters ( yes, Jake you were a great pen pal), & finally through texting & phone calls, we weathered the storms of life.
Jake was there for fellow veterans, cops, and especially for his family & friends, always with a sense of humor.
In our last conversation he told me not to worry & added, "I'll be up there raising hell with Painter".
Peace & love to you, my friend. You are already missed by so many.
My heartfelt sympathies to Dee & family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jake 3 different times.
1. When Dee had a surgery.
2. Dee’s birthday party
3. When I picked up Dee on our way to Savannah, Georgia

Jake was a very interesting story-teller. Dee felt so secured that Jake would pick her up should we have a car problem during our escapades. We overcome heavy storm in Ocala and Dee had a minor accident on our way to the Key West. Luckily, there was no need for Jake to pick her up. It was a consolation knowing that anywhere we ended up having problems, Dee could count on him. Dee lost a protector. Condolences to Jake's family.

All of my Brothers have already said the things that I would have said about Jake. I thought of him as fearless, and someone who you could always rely on. He was also a great teacher and mentor. Simply a selfless guy who we will all miss.

Jake was a solid soldier in some hard places. In Tet, Khe Sanh and the A Shau, he was always there for anyone, doing more than his duty. Thank you, Jake. We trusted and counted on you when it really mattered the most. I am proud to have had the honor of both serving with and knowing you. A "Garry Owen" salute to you, forever.

Another good man is guarding heaven's gates. I was fortunate and honored to have served at the West Chester PD with Jake. I learned a lot from him on the streets of West Chester. Jake, may you be at peace. Thank you and Godspeed.
