Joseph R. Abood, age 76, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 15, 2018. Born on March 19, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida, he is predeceased by his parents James and Amelia Abood, and his brother Emil Abood. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; three sisters Carmae DePalma (Jim) of Jacksonville, Betty Ann Hendricks (Lanny) of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Diane Peed (John) of Jacksonville; sister-in-law Pat Abood of Dallas, Texas; aunt Mary Shaia of Cleveland, Ohio; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, who loved him dearly.
Joe's love of life was evident to all. He loved automobiles and boats and had longtime careers in both businesses. Joe had a fondness for dogs and was a excellent trainer. Joe was a great cook and shared his talents for all to enjoy. He was also very talented at gardening, woodwork, and related crafts and generously shared those gifts as well.
Joe served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a patriotic American who was also very proud of his Lebanese heritage. He was an active member of the North East Florida Hunting Retriever Club and Westside Family Worship Center. Above all, Joe was a man with a contagious smile, kind heart, always willing to help, who loved family and friends, and whose faith in and love for Jesus Christ was evident in everything that he did. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Westside Family Worship Center, 9717 103rd Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32210. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Westside Family Worship Center or the charity of your choice.
