Obituary of Margaret “Bits” Robinson Smith
Margaret “Bits” Robinson Smith, 95, passed away at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Hadlow Center, on February 2, 2014. Bits was born in Americus, Georgia on March 8, 1918. Her parents were Roy and Ethel Robinson. In Americus she met and married her husband, Morgan Smith. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women and taught elementary school until she had their first child, Christopher Morgan. She then became a full time homemaker, and a daughter, Robin, was added to the family. The Smith family moved to Jacksonville in 1950. Bits and Morgan were among the first 10 families to become residents of the Deerwood Country Club. They were also Founding Members of the Deermeadows Baptist Church. Bits was active in her community, serving as the first president of the Deerwood Garden Club. She also served faithfully in many capacities at the Deermeadows Baptist Church. She was president of the Livewires, and she especially loved the ESL ministry of the church. Bits was predeceased by her husband, Morgan, and son, Chris. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Vail, grandchildren, Jan Collins (Walter), Kevin Reed (Denise), and Ryan Reed and great grandchildren, Hannah and Benjamin Collins as well as her nieces, Windy Wright (Ken), Dickie Roberts Tucker (Sam), and a nephew, Jim Greene (Diane). Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Haven Children’s Clinic, 4600 Beach Boulevard, 32207 or the Chris Smith Memorial Media Center of the Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Rd. 32256. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, February 7, at the Deermeadows Baptist Church.
