Master Chief White was a long time resident of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife and their daughter Gloria Jean White, his parents and 7 brothers and sisters. He was last of a family of 8 siblings.
During his Naval career of 28 years, he served on destroyers, air craft carriers, tenders, LST’s; many shore bases and his most favorite duty on the battleship, USS IOWA BB61. He also was stationed at the Pentagon. During WWII, he was part of the crew that set the Subic Bay Base and in particular the personnel office for officers and enlisted sailors. Much of his career from E-6 thru E-9 was on staff duties with Commanding Officers, Captains and Admirals.
He was an avid golfer and played golf on many of the world’s golf courses. He often played on the “ship’s golf team” and a few “Pro-Am” tournaments. As one might expect, “ you can take the sailor out of the NAVY but you cannot take the sailor out of the man”. He enjoyed going to NAS Jacksonville, Mayport and occasionally to Kings Bay Submarine Base. Often these visits were to play golf and to visit the Chief’s Club.
Pinkney (Pau) and his wife, Louise often would spend the day on a golf outing. Leaving early to eat breakfast, play 9 holes, have lunch at the club and then finish the last 9 holes. On the way home, stop somewhere to have dinner. They sincerely enjoyed each other’s company.
Later in life, after the passing of Louise he became very attached to a stray cat named “Calico” which was a good companion for him. It is believed that the two of them really understood each other, after the trained him.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Graveside Service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218 on Wed., November 21, 2018 at 11:00 am.
‘GOD SPEED MASTER CHIEF WHITE.”
