Ruth Hagood Lisso died peacefully in the presence of family members on September 21, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida. She shared her enthusiasm for the arts and life with her many friends and family for 95 years. Ruth was born in Itasca, Texas to Evie Ruth and Howard Hagood. She loved music and graduated with a degree in vocal performance from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. She performed as a soprano soloist with various groups throughout her life. Ruth also volunteered tirelessly at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Paducah, Kentucky, as well as in public schools, garden clubs and Girl Scouting. During her thirty year residency in Jacksonville, volunteer work continued at Riverside Presbyterian Church and the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, an infant sister, her brother, Howard Hagood, Jr. and her husband, Marvin Stuart Lisso. Her surviving family members include two daughters, Lesley Koster (Kenneth Koster), and Marvis Lisso Hartman (John Hartman). She also leaves behind her beloved granddaughters, including Lane Koster (Rodney Wilkinson), Kristin Fielder (Andy Buehn), Vaughan Ashlie Fielder, a wonderful grandson, Austin Fielder and a cherished great-granddaughter, Maya Farrell. Other surviving family members include her admired niece, Peggy Kahn and nephew, James Hagood, as well as a great niece, two great nephews and two dear cousins, Jerry Dell Gimarc and Billye Clay Barrow.
The family is grateful for the support of friends, the staff of Taylor Care Center, Community Hospice and her church. There will be a private family service. Suggested memorial gifts can go to the Riverside Presbyterian Church music program and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
