Felix Barney Hamner Jr., 87, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at Walker Baptist Medical Center.
Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, from 12 until 2 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m., in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Scott Pearce will officiate.
Barney Hamner graduated from Walker County High School in 1950. He served 2 years in the US Army and was a Korean War era veteran. He completed his education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) with a degree in Agriculture in 1957. He spent his career working in the fertilizer industry initially in production and then transitioning to sales. He retired as a district sales manager.
Away from work he was a devoted family man and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jasper where he served as an elder for over 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bass fishing and following Auburn sports. He was much loved and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Hamner; and parents, Felix B. Hamner Sr. and Rachel Sims Hamner.
He is survived by his sons, Felix B. “Sam” Hamner III (Lisa) and Blane Hamner (Sheila); and grandchildren, Amy Mahan, Jordan Mahan, Erin Hamner Castle, Julie Hamner and Joseph Hamner; great grandchildren, Owen, Jude, Caiden, Mateo and Liam.
