H. Lucile Pruessner, 94, passed away November 4 at her home in Claridge Court, Prairie Village. Mom was born May 26, 1924, in Bolivar, Missouri. She married C.A. “Swede” Pruessner on June 13, 1942. Our wonderful, funny, people-smart Pop--with the killer handshake--died in 2002, a couple of months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Mom’s parents, the Reverend Dr. J.O. and Mary Miller; a brother, Harold; her beloved daughter, Sharon; and her two spoiled Pomeranians predeceased her.

The sweetest lady! That’s what everyone said about our mom. She definitely was that--and so much more. Mom was smart, thoughtful and incredibly talented. She excelled at everything--painting, knitting, crocheting, quilting, cooking and rug hooking (even dying wool to create hundreds of beautiful pictures and rugs). Our Christmas trees will be forever filled with mom’s handmade ornaments. She collected hundreds of crystal cruets and she loved reading, especially mysteries. Over 17 years she earned an 18,000 hour pin volunteering for Shawnee Mission Medical Center (also crocheting hundreds of baby caps, booties and blankets for the hospital). She knitted hundreds of colorful afghans for Cancer Action.

Mom’s family includes son Cap Pruessner, Atchison; daughter Joyce (Paul) Richards, Leawood; son-in-law Gary Mullin, Coralville, Iowa; four grandchildren and their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. J.O. (Sue) Miller, Warrensburg, Missouri; brother-in-law Leo Pruessner, Arvada, Colorado; sister-in-law Virginia Pruessner, Hamilton, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

We thank Dr. Charles Ragland, Kansas City Hospice, and the Claridge Court staff for their extraordinary care. Mom requested a private family service. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. To remember our sweet mom, please think of her when you wear purple, her favorite color, and consider donating your time and talents to something you love.
