Michael Donald Silvers, age 75, died at home on February 14, 2020. He was born August 8, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Margaret and Raymond Silvers. He grew up in the Kansas City area and went to Argentine High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1962, and served on the USS Intrepid. He was on the Intrepid in 1965 when it served as the recovery vessel for the crew and spaceship of Gemini 3.
He was a bus driver for the Park Hill School District and especially enjoyed driving the Park Hill South sports teams to their games. He enjoyed golfing, and looked forward every year to organizing a team to play in the Calvary University annual fund-raising tournament. He loved all sports and was an avid Mizzou fan.
He responded to the Gospel after listening to an evangelist on TV. He then became a member of Central Bible Church, and eventually Northwest Bible Church, where he was a faithful member of deacon board for many, many years.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Frances Silvers; sisters, Sandy Clyde and Kay Kuhl; brother, Jerry Silvers; step-daughters, Karen Shields and Carol Butler (Glenn Brown); step-grandchildren, Mary Shields, John Shields, and Melody Brown; and three children from his first marriage, Ty, Heidi, James.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22 2020 at 2:00 pm at Northwest Bible Church, 6520 NW 64th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64154. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Northwest Bible Church.
