My life initially crossed paths with Pastor Houchin when I was just a young boy about 8 years old under the guidance of my grandfather Dewey Sherrill when he heard about a young pastor starting a church in the Stony Point heights area so my grandparents and my 3 cousins and 3 sisters all visited and before long God led toward this church and I am so glad He did because it was there that I trusted Christ as my Savior as a 3rd grader.  
It was under Pastor's direction and leadership that the church grew to the point that a building program began and the church auditorium was constructed which I found to be amazing as a young person, even having the chance to help as I was allowed.  Pastor always preached right from the Bible and spoke of man's sin, his plight of hell if he remained in his current state, and the love of God in sending Jesus as the Savior for the whole world so we might obtain Heaven with God Almighty.  Our church continued to grow and we saw another building program take place with the fellowship hall/classroom building.  We had many Evangelistic meetings but none like the 2 week meeting with Cook/Fauntenberry-unforgettable and what an undertaking of faith.  Pastor was also one of the men with the vision to purchase the property in Ottawa which would become AGBC where young peoples lives could be changed.  
Pastor could best be described as faithful, loving, in all areas but especially with his Lord, his sweet wife Betty, and all his children and grandchildren.  He has been a wonderful friend, tremendous husband, outstanding father and grandfather and I believe his life has made a difference and he can say the he has finished the course and that Jesus Led Him all the Way.  We love you all and have been and will continue to pray for God's wonderful peace.  Angie and I had the privilege of sweet fellowship in our home during the past several years, with Pastor and Betty Praise the Lord!!!


I have knows Paster and Mrs Houchin all my life and he was always the sweetest man and got our family through some very
tough times through losing my mother and grandparents, but he always knew what to say.  He was the most vibrant person
that I have ever known and he never aged.  I remember him always being at the door on sunday mornings to shake our hands
and tell us good morning  at church.  He just spoke at our fathers funeral a couple of years ago and we were so thankful that we
were able to have him there and be a part of that because he was one of the few people that my father really enjoyed visiting
with.  He is leaving behind such a wonderful legacy that will never be forgotten by so many lives that he has touched over his
years on this earth.  Pastor and Betty are 2 wonderful people that I feel fortunate to have touched my heart and have left many
everlasting memories.  He has gone to a better place now to be with all those that have gone before us and now he is watching 
out for us all that he has loved and guided throughout the years.  We truly have a guardian angel watching.    
I send my deepest sympathy to the family and will keep you in my prayers through this time of loss.  


To Betty and the rest of the Houchin family: I only got to know Bob as he so faithfully made the trek from Kansas City so many Sundays,  to minister to us at Winifred Baptist Church the past couple of years, while we were without a pastor. the messages he brought, always, truly blessed my heart. he was such a godly and kind and thoughtful man. he will truly be missed by many, but earth's loss is heaven's gain. May it comfort you in the knowledge that he is safely resting in the arms of our Blessed Lord. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

Dearest Mrs Houchin, family and loved ones of Pastor Houchin. My heartfelt sympathies and prayers for comfort are being sent to you all. I have very good memories of Pastor and will be forever thankful for the impact he made on the lives of my family and myself. He is enjoying the rewards of his labor now, just as he taught us we would with placing our faith in our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. We have the victory in that truth. Pastor as of the 4th of July...ours to come. See ya Pastor! Soon and very soon. 

We were just starting out as missionaries and visited Stony Point. We had a great time with Bob and even went shopping together. He and I bought matching leather jackets!

I spent a few weeks just about every summer with my Uncle Roy and Aunt Betty Francis.  I attended VBS with Becky Francis.  I really loved Pastor Houchin.  He was always so kind and loving to every one.  He will be greatly missed.

Pastor your  years of service and unwavering faith and preaching will be missed. Our potlucks will never be the same with out catching you sneaking into the kitchen to hide your favorite pieces of pie ! Praying for your family.  

Pastor met my family in 1961 when I was a baby. He was canvassing the area for families to attend his newly started church, Stony Point Baptist. My parents were Christians and attending a Baptist Church further out. They had just been in KCK for a year so they became members of Stony Point. That began a lifelong friendship between our parents and us kids in both families. 
Under Pastor’s preaching, in 1965, I was saved after a morning service at the age of five. Five years later he baptized me. I had the privilege for him to marry my husband and I at Stony Point 25 years ago. A year after that he preached at my mom’s funeral and two years ago at my dad’s. 
He and his wife have been true friends to my family. His testimony has been constant and never wavering. He always had a smile and loved to laugh. He gave me a hard time because I went to K State and everyone knows he is a KU diehard.  He always had a perfect poem to read in his messages. He loved potluck dinners at church but especially pie. 

He touched so many lives by serving God. He will be missed. Many prayers go out for his sweet wife, Betty, and his lovely family. 

I first met Pastor Houchin probably when I was just days old. I can never remember a time in my life when I didn't know him. When I was a super little kid, I remember calling him grandpa. Amy reminded me that he really was her grandpa. :-) I would have wanted to take claim too if I was her. There are so many silly memories I have of Pastor.....like him running the snow cone machine at VBS, getting homemade ice cream after church, candy every Sunday night after the evening service, eating at his table on Sundays after church.....however, there are a couple of memories that mean more. I remember when Pastor baptized Amy and I on a Sunday evening. I can still hear him saying "buried with our Lord in baptism and raised to walk in newness of life". He let us go first for homemade ice cream after church that night too. 

The best memory I have though is when he spoke at my grandpa Adams' funeral. He said that my grandpa was a modern day Enoch. He went on to describe how my grandpa walked with God, and was an amazing example. His words meant so much to me on that day. I can promise you that someone will be saying the same words about Pastor. He was an example of Christ on this earth. He had an infectious smile, and was probably one of the kindest men I have ever met (even when he was correcting us for something we did wrong). My heart hurts to know that I won't see him again, and also because I know his family has a deep hole in it now. I'm so sorry for your loss guys!! I love you guys a bunch!!

We wish to express our condolences to Betty and the family.  Pastor married my husband and me over 50 years ago.   More than 50 years ago, I also remember him interviewing me for a teaching job at Muncie - I was so nervous that I forgot how old I was!! (Now, I'm just senile!)  His family was such a good testimony of kindness and friendliness when I first moved to Kansas and knew no one there.  I never knew the meaning of hospitality until I met them!  They will always be special to me.  Pastor was such a good preacher and a fine example of a Christian.  I am so glad the Houchin's were in my life!

I have attended Stony Point church with family members who are members of the church and met Pastor Houchin briefly. I know the impact his life and death had on this church.  I pray for his salvation and for comfort for his family.  Stony Point was lucky to have him.
