Robert “Bob” Wayne Spillman of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020 at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was 76 years old. Private family services are scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Bob’s name to the Wyandotte Chapter Ducks Unlimited.
Bob was born on January 4, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas to Alfred and Helen (Carlson) Spillman. After high school, Bob attended Kansas City Kansas Community College and graduated with his Associates degree. Bob also answered the call to service his country during the Vietnam War where he was enlisted as a United States Marine. After his service, Bob continued to serve his community as a Police Officer on the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department from 1971 to 1993, when he retired from the force. Then from 1993-1995, Bob worked at the Wyandotte County Sheriff Department.
Bob was an active member in the community and was a part of several organizations. He was a life sponsor of Duck Unlimited, the Wyandotte Chapter, as well as the Kansas Trap Association and American Trap Association. Bob was also a proud member the Masons and the Fraternal Order of Police. Bob also loved the simple things in life and enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the birds. He was a family man and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory is his wife of over 30 years, Janice (Billings) Spillman of Basehor, Kansas; his daughter, Jennifer Dale and her husband Clifford, of Basehor, Kansas; his three grandchildren, Elizabeth Grosko, Kelly Grosko, and Adriana Dale; his brother, Harold Spillman and his wife Linda, of Wellsville, Kansas; his sister, Karen Herborn and her husband Pete, of Northfield, Minnesota; and his loyal Labrador Retriever; Miller; along with a host of other family members and friends.
