Cary Bruce Matthes

August 5, 1948February 12, 2020

Cary was a goofy and competitive man that loved ice cream, fried chicken, sports, and crime shows. He was studying to be an architect when he got drafted into the military. He then worked as a mechanic in the Air Force until he was discharged in ‘72. He then worked 33 1/2 years for the park department.

He will always be in the hearts of his wife Barbara and his children, Joseph and Michelle.

In Lieu of flowers, Cary's family request that you give freely to the American Heart Association.

Cary, Billy and I grew up together. Our moms had us out in strollers when we met. Their grandmother lived across the street from us and they lived one block away.
They moved when I was twelve but their mom invited me over many weekends to hang out. They have always been like my brothers. We have continued to keep in touch to this day.
I have so many wonderful memories.
I will miss my brother and dear friend.
My love and prayers go out to his family.

My maiden name is Hermann. We lived next door to the Matthes' when we were growing up. Cary and Billy were the boys next door. That neighborhood had lots of kids and we talked and played games with everyone. I remember long games of Capture the Flag that took place at the Hermann/Matthes houses. The driveway in between was the no-man's-land and the back porches were the "jails". I also have memories of playing Twister, and late night games of Monopoly and the Game of Life on the screened in porches. Other than Christmas cards I haven't kept up with Cary in our old age, but he will always be part of my childhood and happy memories from then. My deepest sympathy to his family.
