Dan Geelan, age 93, of Mission, Texas, passed away May 21, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marilyn, affectionately known as "Lonnie"; brother, Howard Geelan; sister, Virginia Arlint; son, Frank Geelan; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and George Sponcler; granddaughters: Sara Miller, Tiffany Roettgen and Valarie Main, and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by sons George and Paul Geelan.
Dan served in the United States Army, during WWII, with the historic 36th Texas Infantry Division. He spent 14 months as a Prisoner of War, after being captured at the Rapido River crossing in San Pietro, Italy. Soon after returning from Europe, he met Lonnie on a blind date and they married six months later.
Dan was employed at Victor L. Phillips, as a diesel mechanic until his retirement in 1988. He was an active member of St. John Lalande Parish in Blue Springs and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus at the Glennon Council #4613, 4th Degree #566, until they relocated to Mission, Texas in 1993, where they enjoyed their active retirement.
A mass is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 9:00 A.M. at St. John Lalande Parish, 805 NW R. D. Mize Rd. Blue Springs, Missouri, 64015 followed by Visitation and Military Honors at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri, 64133. Following the service, lunch will be served at VFW 329 SE Douglas, Lee's Summit, Missouri, 64063.
