Darlyne Louise Sego, 85, passed away on September 18, 2019. The family will receive friends and family from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice House.
Darlyne was born on November 30, 1933, and was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Thelma Brennan and two brothers, Bernie and Denny.
Darlyne married Bob Sego on December 1, 1956 and went on to have four children who brought her such joy: Anna, Pat, Pam, and Paula. She will be greatly missed by her husband Bob, her daughters Anna Cavanaugh, Pam (Steve) Goldammer, Paula (Bill) Petroshak, her nine adored grandchildren, Rachel (Nelson) Nieves, Jennifer Sego (Travis Hargadine), Brent Cavanaugh, Danny (Lindsay) Goldammer, Stefanie (Brady) Voth, Bethany Goldammer (fiancé Cedric Schofield), Natalie (Sam) Downs, Jessica (Robert) Thompson, Tyler Petroshak and her four, soon-to-be five, precious great-grandchildren, Cayden, Chloee, Cooper Goldammer and future big sister Penelope Downs. She is also survived by her sister, Denise Brennan, daughter-in-law Sherril Sego and extended family.
Above all else, Darlyne’s passion was her family. From hosting endless family get togethers, her legendary German chocolate cake, countless hours of shopping and sewing for matching (and handmade) outfits for her grandkids, to waiting in line for hours for the next limited-edition Beanie Baby, she was incredibly thoughtful and was the best at making memories and creating traditions.
She loved to laugh and to shower her grandchildren with snuggles on the couch, the best back scratches, homemade goodies, afternoon trips to the movies and offers of painting your nails.
She never missed a birthday, school performance or graduation, and was known for her annual (and amazing) Easter egg hunts and the oversized Easter basket brimming with Russell Stovers chocolates. She filled trash sacks to the brim with Christmas gifts and created a home-away-from-home for her grandkids, where the only rule was to snack, play, and snack some more.
If there is one thing for the world to know, it is that Darlyne loved her family deeply and richly and was loved equally in return. They are comforted knowing her and her much loved son, Patrick Alan, are reunited and together will watch over the family.
