Georg, the eldest child, was born on June 18, 1939 in Neubrandenburg, Germany. His parents were Georg Moncke IV and Margaret (Pape) Moncke. He had two sisters: Ingeborg (Moncke) Buchmann (deceased) and Ursula Moncke Wegburg, Germany. He grew up in Neubrandenburg and Monheim, Germany. He graduated from the Technical University Berlin, Germany with a Master’s degree in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering. During his career spanning from 1967-2000 he lived and worked in Leverkusen, Germany; Krefeld, Germany; Pittsburgh, PA; Berkeley, CA; and Kansas City, MO. He held positions including Project Manager, Chief Engineer and Vice President Engineering of the Bayer Corporation. He was fluent in German, English, French, had a good knowledge of Spanish, and could read Russian. He was proud of becoming an American citizen at age 78 as well as maintaining his German citizenship.
Georg met Glenda Bettis Dayani Moncke in 1977 in Kansas City. They were married in a cabin in Warsaw, MO in 1981. Their sons are Philip Moncke (Vera Malek Moncke), John Moncke (Christina Becchetti Moncke) and Kevin Moncke. Their grandchildren include Simon Moncke, Miles Moncke, Nina Moncke, Frederic Georg Moncke and Tim Moncke. Georg had three nieces, four nephews and three great nephews. He is survived by these family members, his wife, a sister and numerous other relatives.
Georg loved adventures. He had many canoe trips, including a rafting trip by lottery down the entire length of the Colorado River. Georg enjoyed extreme endurance experiences and went camping whenever he could including the Grand Tetons in January where he slept in snow huts. He hiked with friends in Peru to Machu Picchu. He sailed the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and further south to the Leeward and Windward Caribbean Islands. He loved downhill and cross country skiing. There were many trips to Europe and beach vacations. And he also loved spending time at home with family, many friends, especially Hützen Tuesday evenings and his beloved dogs. He leaves a legacy of hosting over 43 years of special family dinners, including 17 years of Moncke Mondays.
