Gisela B Schosman
May 1, 1929 – December 29, 2018
Gisela Schosman passed away peacefully at her home in Fairway, KS with her dear husband John and daughter Elaine by her side on Saturday evening, December 29,2018. She was born in Hamburg, Germany on May 1, 1929. Her loving parents Ida and Philipp Hauser and younger sister Linda moved to Stettin, Prussia where she spent her younger years enjoying school and her mom’s amazing vegetable and flower garden that even housed several chickens. Unfortunately, war took them away from their happy home and they migrated to West Berlin. There she met the love of her life, John, and they were married on September 1, 1951. In 1953, they boarded the ship MS Gripsholm to begin a new life in America, first in Little Falls, NY and then in southern New Jersey where they raised two beautiful daughters, Elaine and Christine. Sadly, tragedy struck in 1973 when Christine, or Tina as she was affectionately called, was taken to heaven after a terrible accident. It was Gisela’s great faith, her immense capacity for love and goodness that held their small family together and allowed them to forge a closeness that would last throughout all their lives. Gisela initially worked as a hairdresser, a trade she learned out of necessity in post-war Germany, but she was most proud of her last position as a Head Teller where her gift for numbers and her great compassion allowed her to shine. After retiring, Gisela and John moved to Birmingham, MI and later to Fairway, KS to be close to family, making many new and close friendships along the way. She was such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. To know Gisela was to love her. Her generosity, optimism, understanding, compassion and faith drew out the best in all who knew her, especially her two wonderful grandsons, Gerry John and Christopher who were the lights of her life and with whom she created and nurtured very special and lasting bonds. We know she is at peace in heaven and finally reunited with her dear, sweet daughter Tina and surrounded by her loving parents and mother-in-law, Ida, Philipp and Franziska. She is survived by her adoring husband and soulmate John, her devoted daughter and son-in-law Elaine and Gerry, and her most beloved grandsons, Gerry John and Christopher. To honor Gisela’s legacy, the family encourages all to take time each day to find joy, give love and share compassion with those you love. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a favorite charity or cause would be appreciated. A visitation will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6-8-pm at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd. KCMO 64111. Condolences may be made at www.mcgilleymidtownchapel.com.
