Mr. Smedstad was born March 27,1933 in Starbuck, Minnesota to Lester and Ferne Smedstad. The family later moved to Danube, Minnesota, where Allan graduated from Danube High School. After High School, Allan attended College in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He attended college for 3 years before being drafted into The United States Army, where he served for 2 years in the Army Security Agency. His rank was Specialist Third Class at the time of his Honorable Release from Active Duty.
After leaving the Army, Allan and his first wife moved their young family to Los Angeles, California. It was there he began to work in the private sector in oil and gas accounting. He later specialized in Oil and Gas Joint Venture Auditing, where he was a member of two professional organizations: COPAS and PASH. He worked for a number of oil companies in his long career; ultimately retiring from Torch Energy Advisors in Houston. He was a member of Unity Church of Christianity in Houston. Allan loved spending time with family and friends. He loved running, especially marathons. Upon being bored with retirement, he joined the Fussell Senior Center in Katy. There he renewed his interests in playing bridge and traveling.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Lester, Jr. He leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Cynthia Smedstad of Katy, Tx.; sons, Terry, who currently resides in Utah, Steve of Hearne, Tx., and Dan of Katy, Tx., and a daughter Julie Emery of Katy, Tx. Sisters, Cara Fish of Minnesota and Mary Hannan of Arizona; Brothers David of Colorado, John of Arizona and Phillip of Minnesota. Allan also leaves behind eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
