Mrs. Vlasta Peksa Barrett, 98, of Katy, Texas passed into eternal rest on August 4, 2022 while in the care of Enhabit Hospice and her loving daughter and son-in-law, her strong Catholic Faith having sustained her throughout her life. Mrs. Barrett was born November 28, 1923 in Unin, Czechia (formerly Czechoslovakia) to Frank and Mary Peksa, immigrating to the United States at the age of four, thereafter spending her early childhood and High School years in New York City. While in High School her talents as an artist and fashion designer were recognized and she was appointed to the Teenage Girls Fashion Advisory Board of Bloomingdale’s Department Store on Fifth Avenue where she designed and selected clothing for her contemporaries. Subsequent to her graduation from High School Vlasta relocated to New Jersey where she continued to practice her skills as an artist and baker while cherishing and raising her three children Kenneth (Donna) Kopecky of Metairie, La., Kathleen (Dennis) Woods of Katy, Tx. and Richard (Mary) Barrett , D. C. of Sugarland, Tx. Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Leon J. (Joe) Barrett. She is survived by her grandchildren Carole H. Kraemer (Rick), Kenneth L. Kopecky (Tania), Adam S. Rittweger (Shannan) and Patricia D. Woods and seven great grandchildren Kelsey, Olivia, Kamron, Kierney, Hunter, Logan and Madisyn. Mrs. Barrett’s family wishes to express their collective and heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Grace Igbokwe for her compassionate companionship and unceasing care giving and Susan Shilling for her devoted, considerate and patient care. The family would also like to thank the Nurses and CNA’s of Enhabit Hospice for their care in Vlasta’s final days and for all those who have been praying for her soul. Visitation will take place at Epiphany Of The Lord Catholic Church, 1530 Norwalk Drive, Katy, Tx. 77450 starting at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 13, 2022. Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM with a reception following in the Family Center. Mrs. Barrett will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Tx. 76542 at 2:00 PM Monday, August 15, 2022
