Born February 28, 1928
Departed August 7, 2019
Carolyn was born on a Tuesday evening in a Palmer Park apartment downtown Detroit, Michigan to Rhea Winifred Baird Rossiter and Milford Carl Rossiter. She was one hour away from becoming a leap year baby and the eldest of three daughters. This trio of sisters would end up creating many memorable moments together in their lifetime.
Growing up in Clawson, Michigan, Carolyn attended Clawson Schools. In high school, she enjoyed the home economic courses, participated in choir, and played trombone in the Marching Band. She supported her classmates that had gone to fight in the war by writing letters to them. At the age of 15 she met Vernon Donald Tino. On January 25, 1945, both at the age of 16, they eloped.
Carolyn and Vernon’s first home was in Birmingham, Michigan. They immediately started a family and her career as a homemaker. By the age of 24, they had three children (Michael, Kathleen, Karen) and moved to Livonia, Michigan. Five years later, another child (Donald) was born. In 1963, they built a house in West Bloomfield, Michigan. She picked up a Sales Associate position at Montgomery Ward in Pontiac and worked until their fifth child was born (Laura).
Majority of her life was spent being a devoted Mother and wife, Carolyn kept busy stocking the shelves with freshly canned peaches, pickles, tomatoes, and jams. She baked breads, cookies, cakes, and pies; sewed, knitted, and crocheted. Her social life consisted of playing Pinochle with a group of ladies in the subdivision and served on the Kiwanis Club, Altar Guild, Choir and bowling leagues at church. She loved to entertain, decorate the house for the holidays, garden, and play the organ. Her favorite singer was Perry Como.
In her later years, Carolyn worked again as a Sales Associate for Loehmann’s. She retired after 10 years and together she and Vernon traveled around the United States in their motorhome enjoying golf and camping. Vernon and Carolyn were married for 62 years. Vernon passed in 2007.Carolyn always put family first. She provided unconditional love to all. She smiled a lot, never complained, had a great sense of humor, was quick-witted. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her and her to them. She accepted her in-laws as true brothers and sisters. They all held a special place in her heart.
