Anthony, known to many as “Tony,” was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 3, 1929 to Salvatore and Josephine (Pennino) Spadaro. He proudly served our nation as a member of the United States Army. He also attended New York University, where he earned a degree in Education. He worked for many years as a high school teacher, teaching Auto Mechanics and Repair.
Anthony married his wife Annette in 1953. When their daughters were young, Anthony and his family spent their entire summer in Stoddard, New Hampshire, where he skillfully built their summer home. His family would pack up the car the day after school let out on Long Island, and drive to the house in Stoddard, staying there right up until the day before school started again.
Anthony was above all a “family man,” and cherished the time that he got to spend with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known to many in his family simply as “Pop,” and was admired for his remarkable ability to fix almost anything and his gentle precision at removing splinters with the help of his unique headgear.
Woodworking was his passion. Whether working on a job around the house or on a craft project, his creations of wood were breathtaking. He was able to share his love for creativity and working with his hands with his grandchildren, and he delighted in seeing them take pride in the art as well. He also enjoyed sharing his love of baking: his home was often filled with the aroma of his homemade breads and goodies.
The holidays were a special time for Anthony, and he loved to have his home filled with family, food, and the joy of the season.
After retirement, Anthony enjoyed the time that he spent livingon the Florida coast. He loved to be near the water, whether it was the ocean or the lake. He loved driving his boat while hischildren and grandchildren water-skied or rode on the tube.
In the final years of his life, Anthony and his wife found a welcoming community at Bentley Commons, where they were able to live and maintain their independence, which was very important to Anthony.
