Carrie "Judy" Judith Mentzer

Carrie J. “Judy” Mentzer 85, of Troy, NH, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 following a brief stay at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Keene, NH.

Her parents, John and Adeline (Correia) Waughtel, welcomed their daughter into the world on July 31, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. Judy grew up in Westport, MA.

Judy was an Airman First Class serving in the United States Air Force for five years, receiving her honorable discharge May 31, 1960.

Judy was a resident of Yarmouth Port, MA for many years before moving to Troy in 1985. While residing in Yarmouth Port, she worked with KMART on Cape Cod. She later worked for KMART here in Keene.

A woman of great faith, Judy was an active parishioner of the Saint Pius X Church in South Yarmouth where she taught Sunday school. After she moved to Troy, she continued to be active in the Immaculate Conception Church in Troy, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for the Sunday masses. She was a member of the Red Hat Club.

Having a special place in her heart for her dogs, Judy and her Corkies participated in many agility-training programs. She was an avid reader, and could complete the NY Times crossword puzzles with ease. She always had a jigsaw puzzle in the works at her home. Her family and many friends gave her the greatest joy in her life.

She will be missed by many, especially her daughter, Ginnie Percy and her husband, Sean, of Plymouth, MA; a son, Robert L. Mentzer, III and his wife, Lara, of Twinsburg, OH; her grandchildren, Meghan Ottino and her husband, Lou Ottino, III, Caitlin Terry and her significant other, Zachary Yates, Mallory Mentzer, Robert L. Mentzer, IV; a great-grandson, Louis Ottino, IV; a sister, Sheila "Cookie" Greer and her husband, Robert, of The Villages, FL; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Judy was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Robert L. Mentzer, Jr. in 1988.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 10:00am in the Immaculate Conception Church, School Street, Troy. Burial with military honors in the Loudon Park National Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland, will be held at a later date. There are no pubic calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Mentzer’s memory to Mary’s dogs Rescue and Adoption, PO Box 241, Northwood, NH 03261.

I worked with Judy when she did the morning program at the school in Troy. She was such a delightful lady to work with. She was so thoughtful and caring. It was a pleasure to know her. She will be missed! My condolences to her family.
