Ernie became my Shipmate while participating in our USS NEWPORT NEWS work parties on board USS SALEM in Quincy, MA. We had many great times and told many stories of our various service.
He was truly a hero!

I remember when Ernie said to me, "I don't go to church often, but I try to be a good person." That he most definitely was! Every time I look at the wooden crosses he carved for the whole church family, I will fondly remember him.

I am honored to have had Ernie Linders as a friend. He was a man of true integrity and caring. I met Ernie when our sons were in Cub Scouts. He cared deeply about the future of our youth and spent many years as the Troop 14 scout leader. We remained friends long after scouting and I will miss his wonderful sense of humor and smiling face. I do not remember a time when he wasn't smiling
