Theresa Haag, 91, passed away Tuesday evening, February 12, 2019. She resided at Bentley Commons / America House in Keene, and was a longtime resident of Troy, NH.

Theresa was born in Germany on June 10, 1927, and immigrated to the USA with her husband and young sons, Harold and Ben. The family entered this country in 1953 through Ellis Island in NYC. Her youngest son Tommy was born in NY. Theresa and Anton resided in metro New York until 1988, when they retired and moved to Troy. They achieved the American Dream for their family through hard work and determination. They promptly learned English, became citizens in 1959, and proudly voted in every election.

She was happily married to her devoted husband, Anton, for 66 years. He predeceased her in 2012.

Theresa was a beloved resident of Bentley Commons, and participated in all their social activities. She especially loved to play cribbage. An active member of the Troy Senior Citizens, she volunteered her time for her community and church. She is a devout Catholic, and parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Church in Troy and St. Bernard Church in Keene. Alzheimer's research was a cause close to her heart, and with her granddaughter Erika, participated in numerous fund raiser walks, often pushing her walker!

Theresa enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework and gardening. She was renowned for her Christmas cookies, jams and pickles, and detailed needlework. She knitted hats and scarves for our troops, warm caps for newborns and lap robes for senior citizens. She made every effort to pass along her German skills and history to her adoring grandchildren, who lovingly called her their "Oma". Her daughters-in-law loved her dearly for her kindness, generosity and willingness to always lend a hand.

Theresa is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Patti Haag of Madison, CT, Thomas and Michele Haag of Hawthorne, NY and their three daughters Tori, Alexandra, and Samantha; and granddaughter Erika Haag of Swanzey, NH. Theresa impressed everyone with her warm smile and kindness, and is dearly missed by her family and many friends. Theresa was pre-deceased by her eldest son, Harold, in 2005. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 10:00am in the Immaculate Conception Church, School Street, Troy. Burial will be in the spring in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Troy. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 8th from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, MA & NH Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.

Wonderful lady whose family always made Alice and me feel welcome in their house.
I will always remember what a cook she was!! Waking up in the Haag house on a Sunday morning in Yonkers was like walking into a full service deli!
Such a gracious host; she will be missed by all the knew her.
Harry, Ben and Tommy were so fortunate to have a Mom like her.
God bless you Theresa!
