Bette Ethel Mock, born on September 7, 1941, in Glendale, California, peacefully passed away on September 27, 2023, in North Richland Hills, Texas. She was 82 years old. Bette's journey through life was marked by unwavering love, dedication, and an indomitable spirit. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1959, and although she briefly attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, her greatest joy in life was building a family with the love of her life, Charles, whom she married in 1962. Together, they raised four sons who meant the world to her.
Bette's professional journey included years of dedicated service at the LA Times, where she worked diligently in the classified ads department. Later, her passion for education led her to work in various schools in California and Colorado, making a positive impact on countless young lives. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom as she volunteered her time tirelessly, supporting her children's sports teams, after-school activities, and the PTA.
One of Bette's remarkable talents was cake decorating. Intrigued by the artistry of cake decoration, she pursued a course and became a master cake decorator. Her creations brought joy to countless celebrations and gatherings.
Bette faced the challenges of Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) disease with courage and grace. This condition, causing peripheral neuropathy, never deterred her from being an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. Whenever her beloved teams made the playoffs, Bette was the first in line at the stores to acquire gear, proudly displaying her support.
Family was at the center of Bette's life, and she cherished every moment with her loved ones. She was extremely grateful for the opportunity to see and spend time with all of her grandchildren before her passing.
Bette is survived by her loving husband, Charles, and her devoted sons: Rick and his wife Carolyn of North Richland Hills, TX, Duane and his partner Karen of Reno, NV, and Steve and his wife Sarah of Littleton, CO. She will forever be remembered by her cherished grandchildren: Kyle and his wife Hannah, Casey, Spencer, Erica, and Joe, as well as her great-grandson, Russell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lindsey and Garnet Broom, her brother Don Broom, and her son Bob.
A memorial service to celebrate Bette's life will be held in Colorado at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Charcot Marie Tooth Association (cmtausa.org) in her memory.
Bette Ethel Mock will be remembered not only for her boundless love and dedication to her family but also for her resilience in the face of adversity and her unwavering passion for life and the things she held dear. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
