VIG: Nonie (Van Heeren) March 31, 1934 to February 17, 2021
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Nonie Vig. The second child of Gerrit Van Heeren and Elsie (Yarbrough) Van Heeren, Nonie grew up, married, and raised her children in the Bentley, Eckville, and Red Deer areas of Alberta then in 1973 Gordon and Nonie moved their family to Kelowna, BC.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 66 years Gordon Vig, and sister Mel Maruska. Survived by three children, son Kenneth (Carol) Vig, daughter Carol Gagnon, and son David (Barbara) Vig.
7 grandchildren Darrell (Brit) Vig, Jody (Arnold) Schwarz, Trevor (Hayley) Simkins, Jeremy (Carrie) Simkins, James (Katie) Vig, Bryan (Blake) Vig and Travis Vig. 15 great grandchildren Austin, Alex, Ayden, Payton, Hunter, Zachery, Emily, Hazel, Harvey, Preston, Lydia, Emma, Noah, Cameron and Caleb. Also survived by her sister Nellie Highet, brother Gerrit (Connie) Van Heeren, brother-in-law Joe Maruska, special friends Gary and Margaret Aitken as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Nonie loved people and was always there to lend a hand. Whether it be words of wisdom or encouragement or just a shoulder to cry on she always made time for others. Even in her early 80’s she volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved it when her children, grandchildren and their families would gather for holidays and family picnics.

Nonie was my best friend. The four of us had so many good times together and Gordon and her were like family to us. It’s difficult to express how much they are missed.

I am leaving a message of comfort for family and friends of Elnona. Dying at 87 anyone would say it was a long live. However, according to the Bible, in Psalm 37:29 we read that people will live forever on earth. John 5:28,29 reads that ......”all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out............to a resurrection of life.
So, Elnona will be resurrected and live forever. Our loving God promises this and he never lies. He has all the answers and has given them to us through the Bible.
