Clarence "Barney" Gierczak

November 6, 1923January 20, 2020

Clarence Robert Gierczak was born November 06, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Valentine and Helen (Raugaksky) Gierczak and entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2020 in Athens, Texas. Clarence, known to most who knew him as “Barney”, was a friendly man who loved a good joke and had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved going to the casinos to gamble, and even enjoyed a good game of cards with his grandchildren. Always busy with a project, Clarence would often get all of his children involved to help; he knew he could always count on their “cheap labor”. You could often find him in his garden, whether it was shrubs and flowers for his landscape or his vegetable garden, he would share his produce with his neighbors. He and his wife would host game nights with their friends, they enjoyed cards and canasta, as well as being able to catch up on life. Clarence attended East Tech High School, and then went on to Western Reserve University in Cleveland earning his BBA. He served 6 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to enlisting in the United States Army where he proudly served in General Patton’s third Army and was awarded the Bronze star for being able to keep the lines of communication open for his division. On August 28, 1948, he married the love of his life Dolores Hartman in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked for over 30 years for LTV and retired in 1981.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings and his son Gary.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Gwen and husband Ken Nordman of Paris, TX, son Glenn and wife Bunny of Highland Village, TX, son Greg and wife Darla of Corpus Christie, TX, daughter Gail and husband Jeff Dwight of Flower Mound, TX, son Guy and wife Marie of Justin, TX, 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many more loving family members and friends.
