Mr. Smith is a WWII veteran, having joined the US Army in 1945 at the age of 18, serving in the 619th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron Unit 4. He then went on to marry the love of his life, Virginia, in 1949 and later had 4 children. Mr. Smith was an intelligent and reserved man who was always impeccably dressed. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports. His favorite sports teams were the Atlanta Braves and Alabama Crimson Tide. Mostly, Mr. Smith loved being around his family.
Sherried Smith is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Coy Virginia Smith, and his son Franklin Smith. He is survived by his sons, Robert Smith and wife Shelly, Randall Smith and wife Candice; daughter Margaret Newton; sister, Mattie McAlister; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Emerson First Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held at Emerson First Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 19th, at 10:00 AM. Burial service will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
