November 15, 1937 – October 25, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marlene Joan Elliott, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora on Sunday October 25, 2020.
She is predeceased by her husband Richard, and son Robert. Left to mourn are her son, Richard (Carolyn), her grandchildren Travis (Katie), Krista, Michael, as well as her two great-grandchildren Rynne and Wyatte.
Marlene was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Harold and Octavia Smallwood. Growing up as an only child, she was grateful to spend time on the family farm in London with her many cousins while her father was away at war. After returning to Kenora, she fondly remembered fishing and hunting with her parents throughout her childhood. Marlene attended Central School and Lakewood School, and enjoyed her time working at the CJRL station until she met Richard Elliott, whom she later married in June of 1957. Later in life she worked for the Provincial Government at MPAC, where she retired in 1997. Throughout her retirement she continued to enjoy taking time to curl, golf, travel, cook, and spend time exchanging stories and laughter with her beloved family and friends.
At her request, Marlene is being laid to rest at a later date beside her husband and son at the family property on the lake, where many memories have been made over the years.
You will forever be in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, with whom, through her volunteering and stays, Marlene came to feel as though she knew personally. She was eternally gratefully for the amazing work you do each and every day. If you would like, in lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
