Russell was born in Aldershot, Ontario to Reginald and Reta Havill (nee Theakston). Predeceased by both of his parents and baby brother Robert. Survived by an extended family; brother Tom (Freda) and families, brother Frank (Florence) and families, sister Winnifred (Don) Smith and families, sister Mary (Allan) Morris, son Mark (Sam) and grandson Finn, and brother Dave (Barb) and son Aden.
A huge thank you goes out to all of the KACL staff too numerous to mention, who were more like family to him and such a big part of his life. All your support over the years to keep him at home was truly appreciated by the family. We couldn’t have done it without you.
While growing up Russell was a true farmer rancher. He grew up in Canada with an extensive farm career working with his favourite John Deere tractors wherever possible. He was always so happy on a DEERE. After moving to Kenora in the mid 1980’s from the family farm in Jenner, Alberta, he continued to work very hard at ARC Industries doing wood working, Gould’s Nursery landscaping and with his brother Dave also landscaping.
A kind soul Russell was. He was always there to help. He had a huge heart, great sense of humour, jolly laugh and mild demeanor. Russell was very active and dedicated to Peoples First, Ontario Association for Community Living and Residence Association at Pinecrest. Over the years he won many awards and was very proud to promote awareness for others with disabilities. Russell enjoyed attending weekly church services at Pinecrest.
As well known and as loved as Russell was, he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He made many friends throughout the years including Tom Powell, Gary Popadynitz and Wayne Lax (deceased).
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Pinecrest for making Russell’s life so enjoyable. He received exceptional care by staff and we truly appreciate all they have done for him. Special mention to Dr. Kerry Anderson and Mike Limerick for your help and understanding at this difficult time.
No service will be held until a later date when COVID 19 has passed. If anyone wishes to make a donation in Russell’s memory, the family would very much appreciate donations made to Pinecrest Auxilary or KACL.
Our Loved One Is In Heaven
We know you’d be with us today if heaven wasn’t so far away.
