OBITUARY
Mr. Thomas William Bingham
December 1, 1939 – February 27, 2011
In Loving Memory of
Thomas William Leonard Bingham
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas, of Redditt and a long time resident of Kenora, on February 27 2011 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, at the age of 71 years.
Left to celebrate his memory are his wife of 46 years Victoria, son David & wife Colleen (Hosfield), and grandchildren Kieran and Jenna, all of Ottawa, son Neil of South Korea, and son Keith & wife Treena (Grafham) of Kenora. Thomas is also remembered by his three sisters Leona (Fred Middleveen), Florence (Ross Hadden) and Maryann (Edward Schwartz), and sisters- and brothers-in-law Joe Tachinski, Joyce (Tom Kowalchuck), Ann (Lawrence Romanchuk) and Mike Tachinski as well as many other family and friends.
Thomas was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba. As a child he was introduced to playing the violin, and went on to play in school orchestras, and develop a life-long love for music. His fondest memories of his school years were at Elmwood High School, especially the joy of performing in school musicals.
Thomas and Vicki were married in Winnipeg in 1964, and lived in Armstrong Ontario and Saskatoon before settling in Kenora in 1970. He enjoyed volunteering throughout the community. With his family, he enjoyed many fishing and camping trips around Lake of the Woods, and across Canada.
Thomas loved his 31-year career as an Air Traffic Controller in Kenora and Winnipeg – he called it the “best job in the world”. Through his work, he enjoyed many life-long friendships, which greatly enriched his life. During these years, he learned to skate and play Old-Timers hockey, curled with the Kenora Men’s League, skied, and played softball.
After retirement, Thomas and Vicki moved to live in their lake home in Redditt, and also enjoyed travels in all parts of the world. For many years, they spent part of the winter with great friends at Lemon Tree RV Park in Mission, Texas, and there Thomas rekindled his passion for violin and played in the Winter Texan Orchestra. They were active members of the community of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenora. They also focused their interests on Square and Round Dancing in Kenora and in Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. March 3 2011 at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in Kenora, followed by a reception, and interment of ashes at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.

Mr. Bingham was my neighbour when I was growing up. One day I was coming home from a friends house and I was walking up the path that ran up the side of Mr. Bingham's house. When I got there there was a swarm of bees on the path, I froze and started crying I was so scared. Tom saw me and came over talked to me and helped me away from the bees, he walked me through his yard and made sure I was ok. He was a great man and will live on in his family and friends hearts <3

Dear Vicki and families,
My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your families in the loss of your dear husband Tom, father and grandfather.
I first met Tom at Hugh John MacDonald school practices Saturday mornings for the Manitoba School's Orchestra playing first violins. Unknowingly, it looks like we took similar paths in our retirement years to pickup the violin again and play in an orchestra.
Over the years it was a pleasure knowing Tom as a kind, witty and truly a good friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Melody Engelmann (Lax)

I enjoyed my time in Kenora working with Tom, and later in Winnipeg. One of my fondest memories is when I negotiated his purchase of a brand new Starcraft boat, motor and trailer from a local dealer. He was like a kid with a new toy and I know he thoroughly enjoyed Lake of the Woods with family and his many friends. You 're a good man, Tom Bingham.

My deepest condolences to Vicki, Maryann, and all of the family. We met too briefly at the Elmwood High re-union, but re-kindled many memories of the musical we were in, and the quartette we were in, and it was so neat to do that again two years ago. Tom also brought to my attention his relationship and appreciation for my brother Jack, with a story from their youth. It was so kind of him. He was a first class man, and will surely be missed by many of us current earthlings. With deepest regrets,
Bill Lewis, South Surrey, B.C.

As we get along on our journey called life, we do tend to lose track of friends we knew. I remember Tom and his sisters when I was a young fellow growing up in Elmwood. My grandmother, Katherine Rathgeber lived at 488 Riverton Ave, right next door to the Binghams. I remember having porridge some mornings with brown sugar over at Tom's home. His father taught me a bit about gardening as he had a garden lot just east of the School. I remember tom as a good friend. My condolences to the family. I imagine he is looking down upon us and smiling! Bobby Olien

Uncle Tom always knew the right words to say and would give kind advice when requested. He had a very philosophical outlook on life and yet never took things too seriously. His family and friends were all important to him and his warm smile and contagious laugh will be missed by all who knew him. His love for life was evident in everything he did and he has passed that love down to his sons and grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered always.
