Carrol J. Fox, 87 of Buckley passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his home. Carrol was born on September 10, 1930 in Mesick, MI. to Clint and Hazel (Hoseit) Fox. He attended Mesick area schools, and before being drafted, he enlisted in the US Army. During that time he served overseas during the Korean conflict.
In December 1953, he married Mary Ann (Reamer), who he had met thru a family member. Together they lived in Elk Rapids for a couple years, but then settled in Buckley after purchasing their farm in 1955.
Carrol was a very hardworking individual. During his younger days, he often worked several jobs including building pole barns, and working on chicken farm besides maintaining his farm, Fox Dairy and Grain. He lived and breathed farming, and was farming in a limited respect right up until the last week of his life. Some might say he was a workaholic, but he loved what he did, and found great joy in his farming. He loved his dairy cows and work horses Rex & Rocky as they spent a great deal of time together.
During his free time, he had a great passion for Raccoon hunting, which he tried to do as often as possible. His constant companion for many of his years was his dog Penny. They could be seen riding the quad from the house to the farm and then jumping on the tractor working together the rest of the day. Maybe she didn’t wander far because whenever she would come up to him, he had a treat for her. She was with him right until the end. Knowing part of her had left when Carrol died, she too passed away the night after his death.
Carrol was a member of St. Mary of Hannah Church, and was a contributing participant in the renovation of the gym, which is used for many different functions, including receptions, dinners, and luncheons, which is in part to honor his wife Mary Ann who passed away in 1999. He is remembered by his family as a hardworking individual who was very selfless and never wanted anything for himself.
He is survived by his children; Donald (Kim), Gary (Sherry), Steven (Shelley), Joan (Scott) Olds, and Brad, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by seven siblings.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley, and then on Thursday, September 6th beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary of Hannah Cemetery where military honors will be presented.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions appreciated to St. Mary of Hannah Church, or the Disabled American Veterans.
