Edith was born in Scott County, VA to the late Emma and Echol Calhoun. She worked as a buyer for Belk’s Department Store until her retirement in 1996. Edith was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church for the past 50 years. The majority of those years, she worked in the nursery at the church. She was always thought of as a giving person and was a loving wife, mother, and friend. In her spare time, Edith loved to work in her garden.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents Emma and Echol Calhoun, her brother Judge Edgar P. Calhoun and son-in-law Bill Statzer.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 72 years, Roy Hayter of Kingsport, TN; daughter Sheri Statzer of Nashville, TN; brothers Glen Calhoun and wife Kay of Blountville, TN and Don Calhoun and wife Margaret of Clinton, TN; sister Betty Latture and husband Don of Franklin, TN; sister-in-law Billie Calhoun; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of NHC of Kingsport for their care of Edith.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 20, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Indian Springs Baptist Church and a Memorial service will follow at 3:00pm with Dr. Bob Jones and Dr. Dave Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Edith’s honor to Indian Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 325 Hill Road, Kingsport, TN 37664.
