John was born October 19, 1952 in Kingsport to Norma Jean and D.B. Long. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who loved all his grandkids. John was a hard worker who worked as a plumber and construction contractor. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, knife making and taking walks in the woods. John had just recently proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ and attended Gravely Baptist Church.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Norma Jean and D.B. Long; daughters, Jennifer Long and Amy Kistner and brother, Troy Lynn Long.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice Long; son, John Travis Long; grandchildren, Sadie Long, Robby Caldwell, David Kistner, Ashley Kistner, Emily Long, and John Long Jr.; sisters, Debbie Winagar, Brenda Winagar, and Candy Hairs and husband Mike; mother-in-law, Billie Clark; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor David Salley officiating.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 10:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park, in the Garden of Everlasting Life II.
