Gertrude “Tootsie” Oros Sarvadi, 94, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away quietly in her sleep on Sunday, February 25, 2018, in the home of her eldest daughter, Mary. She was the matriarch of a large, loving family, and will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.

She was born on November 12, 1923 to Nicholas and Mary Oros in Aurora, Il, one of nine siblings, and graduated from East Aurora High School in 1940. She met the love of her life, a handsome young Naval Officer, George Sarvadi, Jr. in 1942. They were married on October 20, 1946 in Aurora, Illinois, and moved to the Navy projects in Cleveland, Ohio shortly thereafter. In seven years, six of her nine children were born and three others arrived over the subsequent 13 years. Their growing family lived in Mayfield Heights until 1957, then moved to Aurora, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, until moving to Houston, Texas in July of 1971.

Trudy took great pride in managing a busy household of 9 children. She loved to garden, was a voracious reader, played bridge with her husband and their close friends, and loved her season tickets to the Houston Symphony. She also loved to cook and prepare meals for family and friends and she had an amazing knack for being able to, at the drop of a hat, feed a few close friends or dozens of family members. Her family recipes are treasured keepsakes of her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While she truly enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends, what really brought her the most joy was showering her hugs and kisses on her many grandchildren and great grandchildren – or any other infant or child that crossed her path. She was happiest when she had a giggling, happy child bouncing on her lap! Grandma Tootsie is survived by her sister, Elaine Zefron and her husband, Tony of Aurora, IL; her 9 children, (David and wife Suzanne of Manassas, VA, Jerry and wife, Donna of Direlton, Scotland UK, Jim and wife, Ruth of Longmont, CO, Mike and wife, Patti of Carrolton, TX, Mary Mikes and husband, Bob of Parker, CO, Judy Covert and husband, Lynn of Washington Crossing, PA, Paul and wife, Victoria of McKinney, TX, Marcia Hassman of Sacramento, CA, and John and wife, Lisa of Houston, TX); grandchildren, Jennifer and Todd Heflin and Sean and Lindsay Sarvadi, Derek and Lara Siewert, Christine Taylor, Carly Sarvadi, Stefanie Sullivan, Kendra and Darren Stroupe, Brandon Sarvadi and Kristi Sarvadi, Christopher Sarvadi and Vicky Simmet, James and Alison Mikes, Katharine Mikes and Juan Ballester, Joseph and Crystal Mikes, Adam and Tracy Covert, Rachel and Jeremy Lowe, Matthew Covert, Shannon and Mark Breuer, Cynthia and David Heaton, Diana and Zack Alexander, Kristen and John Paul Barkley, Brittany Sarvadi, Wes and Danielle Sarvadi, Max Hassman and Miriam Hassman, Benjamin Sarvadi, George Sarvadi, and Katherine Sarvadi; and almost 50 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX, followed by a family burial service at Houston National Cemetery.

The family extends deepest gratitude for the care and compassion provided to Trudy throughout the past several months of her life by her primary caregivers in Parker, CO - her daughters, Mary, Judy, and Marcia, granddaughter Katy, and son Jim, and Amie Sorenson and Elizabeth Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Covenant House of Texas, or the Houston Symphony at . For additional tributes for Mrs. Sarvadi, please visit her Memorial at

I visited Mrs. Sarvadi a few times at her home in Kingwood. She was a delightful woman and a true lady. I know she is rejoicing with the Lord now and forever more. I send love and the Lord's comfort to all of the family.

Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the site of the Lord is the death of His saints."

With love,
