Betty Jones Swearengin

June 27, 1933October 25, 2018

Betty Jones Swearengin, age 85, departed this life October 25, 2018 after a long illness. Betty was a devoted and loving mother, sister and aunt. She ran a catering business for several years and taught cake decorating. Always a gracious hostess to numerous family weddings and other occasions, Betty left many wonderful memories of these gatherings for family and friends. While her later years were marred by serious health issues, Betty taught us lessons in dealing with them through courage and a deep, abiding faith. She was a member of the first Fulton High School graduating class in 1952. Betty was a member of the Christian Women's Club of Knoxville and of the Areme Chapter No. 466 of The Order of the Eastern Star. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Darrell, Sr.; son, Darrell, Jr.; parents, Raymond and Mahala Jones; sisters, Helen Jones and Lorraine Brink. Left to mourn her passing: son, David (Sherry) Swearengin; daughter, Patti Manier; grandson, Michael Manier; grand-daughter Rachel Stoner; great grand-daughters Peyton and Jada Wright and great grandsons, Maxon Manier and Brody Wright; daughter-in-law, Mary Swearengin; sisters, Jane (JB) Garner and Katherine Williams; brothers Raymond (Eunice) and Larry (Gloria) Jones; and a large extended family. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and caregivers for the kindness and care given during her illness, and to Pastor Jack Dean and the members of Central Church of God for their support and kindness. The family will receive friends at Central Church of God, 4721 Papermill Road, Knoxville, Tn 37909 on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 10:00 am to noon. A celebration of her life will follow with Pastor Jack Dean officiating. The family requests that a donation be made to Central Church of God in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be offered at

Miss Betty was a very special lady. I will always cherish my Christmas cards she made and sent me as they were made with her own hands and filled with abundant love. My heart and prayers are with her family and friends.
