Lois Stephens Hoskins died at home in Knoxville on June 29, 2024. She was born in the town of Dana in Eastern Kentucky on August 15, 1929 and was the fifth of seven girls born to Beverly and Mona Stephens. She grew up in Betsy Layne, KY where she graduated from Betsy Layne High School and later attended and graduated from Berea College where she met her husband, Bruce. They both attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Lois taught elementary school at Rocky Hill. She enjoyed the fine arts and enjoyed working with her hands. She was a seamstress and rug maker in her spare time. She loved gardening and being a homemaker. Her background and education allowed her to be very successful in her ventures in all of these areas. She and Bruce had one child and made their home in Farragut TN. and later in Townsend, TN. They travelled back and forth to Kentucky in order to manage the Hoskins properties which brought them back to their roots. They also often enjoyed time spent in Southern Florida. She and Bruce were supporters of Berea College as well as other charitable organizations, particularly in the area of art and education.
She is predeceased by her parents, five sisters, her husband, Carlos Bruce Hoskins, and her son, Gregory S. Hoskins. She leaves behind one sister, Janis Rozavich, her daughter-in-law, Debra W. Hoskins, two grandsons, Gregory Daniel and David Jacob Hoskins. Two great grandsons, David Sawyer and Sutton Rhette Hoskins. She also leaves cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom have fond memories of her.
There will be a gathering to remember her and celebrate the long life she enjoyed. It will be from 11:00- 1:00 on Saturday July 13, 2024 at 4702 Wilkshire Dr., Knoxville, TN 37921. Her ashes will be buried in the family cemetery in Kentucky.
