He leaves to cherish his memory his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years Susie, daughter Gretchen (Darrin) English, son Mark (Brittney) Northall, 6 grandchildren: Tanner, Kennedi and Landon English, Tori (Chad) Bailey, and Cheyenne and Abilene Northall, sister Becky (Dan) Mottram, 2 nephews, 2 nieces, 3 great-nephews and 3 great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Northall.
Roger was born on July 21, 1945 and raised in Poland, Ohio, where he belonged to 4-H, church youth group, and Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout award. His dad coached him in baseball from Little League to B-Ball. At Poland Seminary High School, he was captain of the Bulldog basketball team and played in the band and orchestra. He passed on his love for horses to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, but his real passion was golfing.
Roger proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Washington D.C. and Taiwan. His respect for servicemen carried through his whole life. After the service, he earned an Accounting degree from Youngstown University and worked for Delphi, formerly Packard Electric until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed his work with TLC Insurance where he made many friends while helping them choose Medicare options.
Roger was a dear friend and encourager to many and often commented that he was “the luckiest man alive” even through his illness. His pride and joy was his family. He leaves an unbelievable legacy of those who loved him, love each other, and love God!
His memory will live in our hearts always and we rejoice in his eternal life with no more pain and suffering. Go rest high Roger — until we meet again.
A special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Roger at ParkWest Medical Center and kept him comfortable until the angels ushered him home.
Roger’s funeral will be held at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home (7426 Asheville Highway Knoxville, TN 37924), on Friday August 7, 2020. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at 3:00pm, and the celebration service will be at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
