On May 16, 2024, Sunde Radabaugh joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, embracing an eternity of joy, peace, and love. Her daughter Holly, granddaughter Jessie, and sisters, Tammy and Kat witnessed the peacefulness of her welcome home.
Sunde Sue Smith, known as “Doo” to her older brothers, was born on August 26, 1949. She entered the world with a whisper of hope and a cry of strength. As pretty as she was feisty, Sunde tagged along with her brothers in Tennessee, Missouri, and Mississippi, but she soon became a leader in her own right. Her faith, found early in life, guided her through all its challenges and triumphs.
An amazing singer, Sunde was proud to have had the opportunity to sing on the Grand Ole Opry House stage. She was also a model and a model of faith. An artist at heart, Sunde had a remarkable talent for playing guitar, painting landscapes, and creating beautiful flower arrangements. Her toughness was matched by her tenderness, and she was equally adept at renovating a house, growing her own vegetables, and defending the rights of others, including serving for ten years in the United States Navy.
Sunde loved the outdoors, and her time in the Pacific Northwest and the mountains of Tennessee replenished her when the physical pain began to take a toll. Her eyes always shone with the same whisper of hope and cry of strength that were present at her birth.
A great musician once said, “Gratitude is when memory is stored in the heart and not in the mind”. Her family will forever be grateful for their journey together.
Sunde was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Smith and Elizabeth Johnston Hopper; her brothers, J.D. Smith and Arthur Lee Smith; and her sister, Donna Smith. She is survived by her siblings, Tammy L. Hopper, Kat Peterson (Steve), Trish Nelms (Don), and Patrick C. Hopper (Patrick), as well as nine nieces and nephews and their children.
Sunde will be greatly missed by her loving children Christian Radabaugh, Heather Brown (Stephen), Holly Bowen, Tuesde Johns (Ronnie), and James Bingham, Jr. She will also be remembered by her thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. All who are left behind look forward to the final and faith-filled reunion.
A visitation for Sunde will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11 at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike 37919, followed by a graveside service at 1pm.
