I'd like to share my condolences to family and friends upon this solemn tiding. I am rather taken aback at seeing Gerri among the obituaries, particularly since I was just remembering a couple of days ago some of the conversations we'd had in the office at Delco.
I was doing work as a technical writer and Gerri had to screen and critique my work before the documents were submitted to Document Control and ultimately, the Training Department, where she worked.
She often found exception to my choice of words, thinking them too archaic for publication. She used to say, "Johnny? Did you grow up around a lot of OLD people? Where'd you use terms like DON your gloves or DOFF your hat? Nobody talks like that anymore! You need to change this."
I got into a bit of trouble one day when I looked at a photo that she had sitting on her desk of herself and an older-looking gentleman. It reminded me of the picture of Margie and Vern Albright from the TV series, "My Little Margie." I impulsively asked, "Is that your dad?" to which she retorted, "NO! THAT's my HUSBAND!" (oops)
She was always a hoot to work with... intelligent, witty and never reluctant to let you know what she was thinking. :-) Gee, that was back in about 1992 and you know what? I still miss that bunch and especially Gerri, who was always the center of activity. I can only imagine the loss that Gerri's family and closest friends are experiencing. My prayers and wishes go out to you. God bless!
