Juanita R. Barkhaus, 95, of Kokomo, passed away at October 15, 2019 at 3:25 P.M. at the Kokomo Place. She was born to the late Theadus (Moody) Coggins on December, 20, 1923 in Dover, TN. She married William L. Barkhaus, and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1993.
She retired from Kokomo Center Schools and was the book store manager for 12 years. Juanita was also a floral designer in Kokomo for many years. She had an eye for design and was asked by many family members and friends for her ideas. In the early years of her marriage, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing in Russiaville. Juanita enjoyed travelling with her whole family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When Juanita's daughters were younger, she and her husband would load Elaine and Linda in the car and travel to different states, with Florida being their favorite destination. Later, Juanita enjoyed spending time with her family and adventures with her three grandchildren, spending ten years on Panama City Beach during wild and crazy spring breaks there. Also, Juanita and Bill travelled to Europe for three weeks. They also enjoyed spending time at Lake Shaffer. Bill surprised the whole family with a boat so they could enjoy water-skiing during their time there together. So many precious memories made during those fun times.
Juanita is survived by two daughters, Elaine (John) Briggs, Rochester and Linda (David) McFatridge, Kokomo; three grandchildren, Kristen Coe, Warsaw, Jessica (Jon) Hollingsworth, Russiaville, and Andrew (Nicole) McFatridge, Noblesville; three step-grandchildren, Pattie Zebell, Mary Kiser, and Andrew Briggs; and four great-grandchildren, Hadley and Henry Hollingsworth, and Harper and Tate McFatridge.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William L. Barkhaus; and her parents.
In Juanita's last six years, due to her failing health, she was a resident of the Wellington, Waterford Healthcare and Kokomo Place. She was fortunate to be cared for by loving and compassionate nurses, aides, and staff from all three places.
There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 12:00 P.M., at Ellers Mortuary Main Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo.
