Rosemary “Rose” Dermody was a small business owner, real estate investor, and a seeker of knowledge. More importantly to Rose, though, she was a mother, and on March 3, 2018, she passed away in the company of family. Rose was born on May 21, 1941 to Patrick and Catherine Clark. She spent her youth in Michigan with her sisters and brother, but moved to Chicago when she married. In 1979, Rose and her family decided to leave the snowy winters behind for the sunshine of California. She opened Rose’s Greenfield Manor in 1986 and spent the last 28 years providing care for elderly residents and giving them a home and providing comfort when they were no longer able to live independently anymore. She touched so many in the community by caring for their family members as her own. Her favorite role was as a loving mother to her sons, Tommy and Jimmy, and her daughter, Julie, whom she shared with her former spouse, Tom Dermody. Watching her children grow up and have grandchildren was one of her great joys, she shared her family’s joy and sadness with the whole community. Her group of family and friends grew over the years as once she got to know someone, they became a part of her extended family. She remained happily settled in Santee, CA with her life partner, Jim Jones (JJ), for nearly thirty years. Rose is survived by her life partner, Jim Jones; son, Tom Dermody and grandsons, Justin and Cory Dermody; son Jim, wife, Peggy and grandchildren, Allison, Bridget and Claire; daughter, Julie Nynas and granddaughters, Natalie and Katie Nynas; and her sister, Katie Mielock. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Fran and her brother Tom.
