Mr. Davis was born August 3rd, 1937 in Etowah, TN, where he lived until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen. Serving twenty-three years in The United States Navy was his greatest privilege and honor. He served aboard The USS Trathen, The USS ORISKANY and was stationed at several bases throughout the country. He was awarded many medals, commendations and 5 bronze stars. His last commission was to the Navy Supply School, Athens, Georgia, where he retired in 1977. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and even worked part time at the ticket office for several years. He was a long-time member of the Oconee County Lions Club and received The Melvin Jones Fellowship Humanitarian Award, which is the highest form of recognition for his exemplary service to his club and the community for which it serves. He was a member at Briarwood Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. In 2014, he and his wife moved to LaGrange, GA to be closer to family, where they attended First Baptist Church on the Square. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bette Davis; children, Robin & Greg Morris of LaGrange, Jeff & Donna Davis of Lake Park; grandchildren, Laura Lynn Keese (Jon), Matt Morris, Kristin Calvert (Jeff), Karrie Beth Davis (Nick), Britton Davis, Brody Davis; great-grandchildren, Davis, Mary Charles, Ella Kyle, and Tucker Robert, all of whom he adored. I remember when I was a child how happy my father (John L.), Bob's brother, and my mom (Gwen) were whenever we got to visit. There was lots of laughter and talking and staying up half the night! There was great joy when we got together. I treasure those memories.

My uncle Bobby was my hero from my first remembrance of him as a little boy. He and his brother my father, inspired the work ethic I’ve been Blessed with. My cousins, and aunt, I love y’all! Prayers and Blessings over all y’all.

Bette, so sorry for your loss. Tony and I loved Bob, and learned so much from him as our Sunday School teacher at Briarwood. Bob will be missed by many. What a promise that we’ll meet again! What a joyous day!

Bob & Bette took us in when we were just newlyweds & new to the community. One of the most giving men I’ve ever know. Serving others all the time- Navy, work, Lions Club, community & church. Been missing him since y’all moved. Thanks for all you did for Susie & me.

We are so sorry for your great loss. You and Bob were precious friends to our family. Bob always had words of encouragement and tools he was more than willing to loan. He usually picked the tools up and volunteered to work right along side whoever needed them. We have missed you at Briarwood.

We love you.
