Gary W. VanAlstine, age 79, of Irons formerly of Lake Odessa passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 with his wife of 45 years by his side. Gary was born on June 21, 1941 in Lansing to Albert and Jean (Krapf) VanAlstine. Gary was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School. He was employed at Diamond Reo for 17 years and then worked for Leaseway in Lansing until he retired in 2001. He was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and traveling. Gary especially enjoyed wintering in Florida the last 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking and carving. He liked spending time with his family and friends, helping anyway he could. Gary was a hard worker with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon, his stepson, Brian (Melissa) Cook, his mother-in-law, Ardene Lackey, his brother, Ron (Della) VanAlstine, his brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Jeffrey VanAlstine, mother Jean VanAlstine, father Albert VanAlstine, and father in-law Vance Lackey. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date at Koops Funeral Home in Lake Odessa.
