OBITUARY

Rex J Creighton

November 9, 1934September 19, 2020

Rex J. Creighton, age 85, went to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, September 19, 2020, with family by his side. He had looked forward to seeing his Savior, his family and friends for many years. Rex was born on November 9, 1934 in Portland, MI, and raised on the family farm on Clarksville Road. His parents were Arthur and Esther (McNeil) Creighton. His mother died when he was young and his father married Elfa Meyers. Rex attended a one-room schoolhouse and developed a strong sense of patriotism during WWII. He learned to do your best, keep your word, and be honest while on the farm. He met Virginia Mae McCaul during High School in Lake Odessa. They were married November 15th, 1953 at Clarksville Bible Church. Their 50th Anniversary was celebrated with a family reunion in MI, and Virginia’s funeral in 2005 was held at Clarksville Bible Church. Rex farmed, worked in the hardware store, and sold farm machinery for Starline while in Clarksville. He moved his family to Lansing to work for Badger Northland. They transferred him to Appleton, WI, then to Liverpool, NY. After being Branch Manager for Badger in Central New York, Rex became Northeast Territorial Manager. Traveling continued in his job with Cannon Ball Building Hardware. Tiring of extensive travel, he developed U-Stow-It, the first self-storage business in Central New York. He retired at age 79 and loved Michigan all his life. He will be remembered for his attention to details, common sense, dedication, willingness to help others, and his beautiful smile. Rex showed his true entrepreneurial spirit all of his life, sometimes running three businesses at once. He would say, “I’ve always done what others couldn’t, or wouldn’t!” and, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me!” and, “If you do something, do it right the first time!” and, “Plan your work and work your plan!” Rex was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur and Esther (McNeil) Creighton; his son, Paul J. Creighton; his brother, Kenneth Carl Creighton; his stepmother, Elfa (Meyers) Creighton; his beloved wife, Virginia (McCaul) Creighton; and his brother, Fredrick Creighton. He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Louise Esther Creighton of Clay, NY; Laura Jane (Daniel) Schroth of Clay, NY; and Lola Ann Creighton and husband, Robert Glantz, of Sarasota, FL. Rex is survived by three grandchildren: Zachary Creighton Glantz (Clinton Randall) of Philadelphia, PA; Evan Creighton Glantz (Mary) of Las Vegas, NV; and Danae Schroth of Baldwinsville, NY. Rex’s illness the last six years prevented him from enjoying great-grandchildren: Finnley Vada and Maizey Ace Glantz of Las Vegas, NV; and Dexter Randall Glantz of Philadelphia, PA. Rex also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends. A celebration of Rex’s life was held at North Syracuse Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. New Comer Cremations & Funerals in North Syracuse handled arrangements for the family. His complete obituary and video of his life is on their website at www.newcomersyracuse.com. Rex’s family invites you to his graveside service on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa, next to the graves of his wife and son. Pastor Tim Bateman from Clarksville Bible Church will conduct the interment service. The family would appreciate attendees following COVID precautions.
