I am just hearing of Jay’s passing... I am so heartbroken. I loved him dearly! He was like a big brother to me.  I rented a room from him in Virginia Beach way back in the 80’s when he was the General Manager at Carlos Murphy’s.  I was just 21 when I met him and he was so protective of me, treated me so kind and generous.  We had so many good times together and lots of laughs, tears, life experiences. After he moved to Florida, he let me use his car (as I had lost mine) while I got back on my feet.  We kept in touch with a few phone calls every year but we hadn’t talked for awhile. I always sent him. Christmas card with a picture of my son (who literally was a miracle). Jay was so supportive when we were trying so hard to have a baby. I will miss his smile and laugh and lovely spirit.  God Bless you Jay Starr.  He talked so much about his beautiful daughter and granddaughter.. the diamonds in his golden heart. ❤️🙏

Jay he truly my best brother/friend, Were ever Jay was I wait him. We have had so great times football games, Daytona, so many concerns I can not even count etc... I love him better then my brother. The way my mom die is what messed me up. I could not get out of bed for 6 months. I lost everything and Jay was always there to by me a meal. When I got old I switch to beer from Stokleys and cranberry. I was all was the driver with Jays pass experience. He would call me up and I would be home sure. That is only if he had a good day at the ALE House. We were there for each others at hard. Jay was the nicest person in the world. After my mom die it was a living hell for me. Jay and I went to the old key lime bar and grill and he saw this girl from across the bar, Jay gets eye contact and he was pointing at he chest but he was talking about the turtle around her heck. So he walks over and met Barbra his girl friend. At is point I know I had mental issue, staying close to people you love and he was very health at the. 
I stop calling him and I never giving a reason why and if I know Jay that made him drink a lot more. Just trying to understand what he did wrong. Jay I let you down as you wing man.

jay was always good to my fellow pool players and myself.  he enjoyed watching us.  he tried to play some of the 'big dogs'  but he just fumbled around and we all, including jay would laugh how he would try to make even the simplest of shots.  at times he would leave the ale house open past hours for the pool players to keep playing.  
but then came a black cloud over the ale house.
... the poker players came in!  BUT!  they were were welcomed!  pool players, poker players, trivia players, everyone was welcomed!  and that is what jay was good at!  people!  jay was good at people!
he might not have been the best pool player , the best poker player, the best trivia player.
but jay was the best people person.  and he was loved by all!  jay was everybody's friend and he will be missed!

may the GOOD LORD welcome jay into HIS KINGDOM,
and may the GOOD LORD comfort his beloved, his family, and his many, many friends.
